Here are some frequently asked questions. If you have a question that is not adequately addressed below, please [intlink id=”contact” type=”page”]contact us[/intlink].

Conference Organization:

What time does the conference begin?

The conference takes place June 4-7, 2015 at Pomona College. A schedule can be found here. While the opening plenary address by Bill McKibben doesn’t start till 7:00pm on Thursday (June 4), there are a number of pre-conference activities (details here).

What are “Sections” and “Tracks”?

Most of this conference will be devoted to meeting in small working groups (called “tracks”) to discussion particular topics of real importance. There are 82 different Tracks. The task of these Tracks is to advance thinking on particular issues in the direction needed if we are to move toward an ecological civilization. Each track will meet for 8 sessions (90 minutes each) during the course of the conference.

The Tracks are organized under 12 key themes called “Sections.” Each of the 12 Sections will have 1 “Section Plenary” address.

Do I have to attend the same Track the entire conference?

For optimal working group discussions, it is recommended that registrants select only one of the 80+ tracks, and commit to attending that track for the entirety of the conference. While choosing a single Track is not required, all Tracks run concurrently, so changing groups will entail missing out on important parts of the discussion.

Are the Public Plenaries free and open to the public?

Yes, the evening Public Plenaries are free and open to the public. However, space is limited, and preference is given to paying registrants.

Do I have to register if I am only attend one of the public plenaries (ie. McKibben)?

No. However, since space is limited and preference is given to paying registrants, you may want to consider filling out cheaper Single Day registration.

Can I attend the course and the tracks?

The 2 Introductory Courses run concurrently with track sessions. Like the tracks, we advise selecting only one, and commit to attending that course or track for the entirety of the conference.

Is campus housing available?

Yes. A limited number of rooms are available at the Pomona College and Pitzer College dorms. To reserve on campus housing, go to the registration page. On campus room are $60 per night.

Are there rooms with private restrooms on campus?

Most rooms on campus have shared restroom facilities (either shared between 4 suites, or 1 hall. Those interested in rooms with private restroom facilities are encouraged to consider making a reservation at one of the local hotel listed.

Can I share a room?

Each room is furnished with only one bed. However, among the dorms available, Pomona College has graciously given us access to their top-of-the-line dorm facilities (Sontag). Here, each room is furnished with one “full sized” bed, large enough for sharing (for those interested). If you wish to share a room,  please [intlink id=”contact” type=”page”]contact us[/intlink].

If I share a room, does my roommate also have to pay $60 per night?

No. It is $60 per bed per night. If you are sharing a bed, only one of you needs to register and pay for the room on campus. However, to make sure we accommodate you accordingly, please [intlink id=”contact” type=”page”]contact us[/intlink], to make us aware of your intent to share.

Is it possible for my friend and I to have our room assignments in the same suite?

Yes. Please [intlink id=”contact” type=”page”]contact us[/intlink], and let us know the name of your friend or friends.

Will I have access to parking on campus?

Yes. On campus parking is available and will be free.

 Which airport is closest?

Ontario International Airport (ONT) is the closet airport to Pomona College. 9.5 miles (15 minutes). While some may wish to use the larger Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), be advised that it is roughly 50 miles from campus and could take 1-3 hours depending on traffic.

Are there shuttles available to and from the airport and conference location?

Check with your local hotel about possible free shuttle service. For those staying on campus, Super Shuttle transport is available to and from Ontario Airport (here), as well as Los Angeles (here). For a discount, visit Super Shuttle Discount for Pomona College.

What age do you need to be to receive the senior discount for the complete registration?

We are letting people self-identify as senior, low income, etc.

What steps do I need to take to receive financial aid or reduced conference fees?

To request financial support, fill out the Financial Aid Application form. Priority is given to international registrants from countries where dollars are very expensive.

I have just registered for the conference.  Can I change my registration info to add or remove items like rooms on campus, or the banquet?

I’d like to attend the Bill McKibben talk only because I’ll be out of town for the rest of the workshop. Is that possible? Thanks.
