Section XI: Reimagining and Reinventing Culture
Track 1: Journey of the Universe and Inclusive History as A Context of Meaning
(Mary Evelyn Tucker)
The intertwined ecological and social crises of our time have given rise to the ongoing fragmentation of human-Earth relations. Moreover, reductionist science as a worldview has contributed to the objectification and subsequent exploitation of nature. We are in need of a comprehensive and inclusive story encompassing universe, Earth, and human history. Such an evolutionary narrative embeds humans within the deep time of a 14 billion year universe. It also locates us within the dynamic processes of Earth’s creative unfolding. This track will begin with showing and discussing the Emmy award winning “Journey of the Universe” film. It will continue exploring the human story and our awakening to a new understanding of our critical role at this moment in the Universe Story. We will examine the ways in which the Great Work of transformation in our time is being inspired by the epic story of evolution.
